Cyclists rode through the city yesterday to remember the fourteen riders lost in bicycle accidents last year.

Hundreds of riders took part in the ride, traveling through Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, and stopping for a moment of silence at the spot where each cyclist was killed. Organizers say they’re sending a message to drivers.

“People aren’t careful enough,” said an organizer. “People don’t obey the rules that are there, and we need better designs. We need things that would turn this city into a greener, safer place.”

Each bicycle collision site was marked by a “ghost bike,” a bike painted white and marked with a commemorative plaque.
