Time’s Up, the bicycling advocacy group closely linked to the city’s monthly Critical Mass rides, wants everyone to remember that the police and cyclists weren’t always antagonists. Indeed, as a video the group posted on Monday attests, police officers used to help clear the way for Critical Mass rides back in May 1999. On bikes!

“I’m going to ride right along side you,” one officer tells the group in the video. Many of the bike police shown appear not to be wearing their helmets. What a difference 10 years makes.
